Introduction
5086 aluminum coil belongs to the Al–Mg series alloy family with Mg content of 3.5–4.5%. It is a rust-resistant aluminum with high strength, low density, high tensile strength and elongation, good corrosion resistance, good weldability and machinability—an excellent choice for shipbuilding and marine equipment. Its strength is higher than 5052 but slightly lower than 5083. It is not strengthened through heat treatment; instead, strength is enhanced by strain hardening and/or cold working.
As is known, 5086, 5083 and 5052 alloys are widely used as marine-grade aluminum. 5086 coil offers excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability and surface treatment performance, and medium strength. Common tempers for 5086 include O, H111, H112, H116 and H321. 5086 coil is widely used for ship sides, decks, tanker trucks, pressure vessels, transportation equipment, and anodizing materials.
Key Features
- Low density, high tensile strength, high elongation, good corrosion resistance; can withstand corrosion from strong seawater, industrial atmospheres and petrochemical media.
- Medium strength and good weldability; suitable for manufacturing high-demand welded parts with good welding forming performance.
- Surface free of oil stains, waviness, scratches, roller marks; neatly trimmed edges and no burrs.
Applications
- Shipbuilding: yachts, patrol boats, cargo ships, workboats, fishing vessels, etc.
- Automotive body: metro trains, dump trucks, tanker truck bodies, etc. Aluminum armor and aircraft welded parts. Also used as anodizing material.
