Introduction
5A06 aluminum plate is a 5xxx-series Al–Mg rust-resistant aluminum with high Mg content (higher than other 5xxx alloys). It is a non-heat-treatable alloy, and strength is increased through cold working. In annealed and extruded conditions, 5A06 has good plasticity. It also provides relatively high strength, good machinability and excellent weldability. With gas welding and spot welding, joint strength can reach about 90–95% of the base material strength. When welded with TIG, gas tightness and weld metal ductility are excellent. Therefore, 5A06 aluminum plate is widely used for welded parts such as in ships, automobiles, metro/light rail, as well as for various pressure vessels and molds.
Key Features
- Excellent weldability: well-suited for various welding methods such as arc welding, gas welding, spot welding, and argon arc welding.
- Good corrosion resistance: high-Mg content provides good corrosion resistance.
- Mechanical properties: proof stress $$\sigma_{0.2}$$ (MPa) ≥ 160 (as provided).
- Other: prominent anodizing results and good formability.
Applications
Welded parts, molds, pressure vessels, etc.
