Introduction
6101 aluminum plate is a popular alloy found in many commercial and industrial applications. It offers users high electrical conductivity and good mechanical strength. 6101 aluminum can be processed, welded and formed using standard methods and is easy to extrude.
As a heat-treatable forged product, 6101 plate is best suited for applications requiring medium strength and maximum conductivity. It is similar to 6063, but with less chemical variation, which helps improve conductivity. Although conductivity is slightly lower than alloy 1350, it provides greater strength.
Key Features
- Good corrosion resistance, flexibility and formability.
- Unlike other aluminum alloys, 6101 plate can be hot-worked and cold-worked.
- Multiple temper conditions provide different levels of strength, formability and conductivity.
- Can complete all standard welding processes, including oxy-fuel welding.
- Best welding method is inert gas arc welding.

Applications
- 6101 plate is commonly used for conductors and cables in power transmission and distribution systems due to excellent electrical conductivity and mechanical performance. It is also used to manufacture enclosures for electronic devices, heat sinks and other components, and conductive parts in building/structural applications such as cable beams and conductive rods.
- Because of its high strength and corrosion resistance, it is suitable for outdoor environments. In transportation industries (railways, ships and automotive manufacturing), 6101 plate is used for body structures, vehicle housings and electrical conductors. It is also used in power electronics to manufacture radiators, heat sinks, heat-dissipation plates and other thermal-management equipment.
