Introduction
2A12 aluminum alloy rod is a high-strength hard aluminum that can be heat-treatment strengthened. Spot welding performance is good. With oxy-fuel welding and argon arc welding, there is a tendency toward intergranular cracking.
After cold work hardening, machinability remains relatively good. Corrosion resistance is not high; anodizing and painting are commonly used, or a surface cladding aluminum layer is added to improve corrosion resistance.
Applications
2A12 is used in situations requiring high strength and hardness (including high temperature). Heavy forgings, thick plates, and extruded materials are used for aircraft structural components, first-stage fuel tanks of multi-stage rockets and spacecraft parts, wheels, truck frames, and suspension system components.
