6063 Aluminum Rod

6063 aluminum rod offers excellent processing performance, good weldability, and outstanding anodizing results. It is made of 6063 aluminum alloy with Mg and Si as the main alloying elements.

    Introduction

    6063 aluminum rod offers excellent processing performance, good weldability, and outstanding anodizing results. It is made of 6063 aluminum alloy with Mg and Si as the main alloying elements. It provides outstanding machinability, good weldability, extrudability and plating performance, good corrosion resistance and toughness, and is easy to polish and apply color films—delivering excellent anodizing performance.

    As a typical extrusion alloy, 6063 aluminum profiles are widely used for architectural profiles, irrigation pipe materials, vehicle/stands, furniture, lifts, and fences—covering tubes, rods, and profiles.

    6063 is a low-alloyed, high-plasticity Al–Mg–Si alloy and features valuable characteristics:

    1. heat-treatment strengthening with high impact toughness and low notch sensitivity;
    2. excellent weldability and corrosion resistance with no tendency toward stress corrosion cracking—among heat-treatable strengthening aluminum alloys, Al–Mg–Si alloys are described as the only one where no stress corrosion cracking phenomenon has been found;
    3. very smooth surface after machining, easy to anodize and color. A drawback is that after quenching, if kept at room temperature for a period, aging can adversely affect strength (aging/parking effect).

    Applications

    6063 aluminum alloy is widely used in the frames of building aluminum doors and windows and curtain walls. To ensure that doors, windows, and curtain walls have high wind pressure resistance, assembly performance, corrosion resistance, and decorative performance, the comprehensive performance requirements for aluminum alloy profiles are much higher than the industrial profile standards.
